Jakarta – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has set its sights on battling for the MotoGP World Championship title in 2024.
Last season, the Austrian manufacturer finished second in the Constructors’ standings, achieving its best result. Additionally, their rider Brad Binder ranked fourth in the Riders’ standings, concluding the season.
KTM Racing Director Pit Beirer stated that this outcome makes it a realistic goal to contend for a top-three finish in the Riders’ Championship this season.
“I mean, we were fourth (with Binder). So the next realistic target is to bring the rider onto the podium (for the World Championship),” Beirer said ahead of KTM’s eighth season.
“However, we didn’t make all these efforts just to say we’re happy to finish in the top three. We want to fight for the title,” he added.
KTM contended with Ducati last season, which occupied the top three spots in the Riders’ standings at the end of the year with Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, and Marco Bezzecchi finishing first to third consecutively.
Ducati is the reigning back-to-back World Champion with Bagnaia. Thus, the Italian manufacturer poses the biggest obstacle to KTM’s aspirations for the MotoGP World Championship title.
Beirer acknowledged that Ducati remains a formidable competitor. However, they will strive to end the factory’s dominance.
“We’ve been trying to improve our project in every detail as much as possible. That’s what we’ve been doing from day one. Our team is more fantastic and stronger than ever. Our riders are developing simultaneously,” he said.
Ducati dominated the top four positions in the Sepang test schedule. Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro was the best non-Desmosedici rider, ranking fifth.
In the official MotoGP test session held at Losail International Circuit in Qatar on February 19th, 2024, Bagnaia was once again the fastest. During that time, Binder placed fourth, just 0.296 seconds behind.
