The Alfa Romeo F1 team opted for Zhou Guanyu to use older yellow-marked tires in the Sprint Race at the US Grand Prix. After the race, Zhou explained to journalists the reasoning behind this decision, stating that it was all about gathering data for the main race.
Zhou commented, “Firstly, today after the start, I needed to optimize every gear because I lost all of them. Secondly, tire degradation throughout the race was quite severe, but we chose to run with used medium tires. This was mainly to prepare for tomorrow, and hopefully, we can manage our tires better to secure a points-scoring finish.”
