In the US F1 Grand Prix qualifying session, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc secured pole position with a time of 1 minute 34.723 seconds. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton claimed second and third places respectively. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had his fastest lap nullified due to running wide at Turn 19, resulting in him finishing sixth. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu put in a strong performance in qualifying, securing 12th place, while his teammate Bottas will start from 13th.
In Q1, drivers consistently improved their times. Hamilton topped the leaderboard with a 1:35.091 in his final flying lap for Mercedes, while Zhou showed promising form, finishing 8th. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin was surprisingly eliminated in Q1, marking the first time he has been knocked out in this phase, signaling potential concerns for the team. The five drivers eliminated in Q1 were Hulkenberg, Alonso, Albon, Stroll, and Sargeant.
During Q2, drivers lifted their game, with Sainz and Hamilton’s fastest laps not significantly different. Zhou delivered a solid last flying lap in Q2 but still missed out on advancing. The five drivers eliminated in Q2 were Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou, Bottas, Magnussen, and Ricciardo.
The Q3 session was intense, with Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull setting new fastest laps. Ultimately, Leclerc’s solid performance earned him pole position with a time of 1:34.723. Although Verstappen briefly held the fastest lap in Q3, his time was disallowed due to exceeding track limits at Turn 19, ensuring pole position remained with Leclerc of Ferrari. We look forward to seeing if the Monaco driver can translate this into an excellent result in the main race.
