In the third practice session of the Mexican F1 Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen set the fastest lap with a time of 1 minute 17.887 seconds. Alpine’s Alexander Albon and Sergio Perez claimed second and third positions respectively. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu improved his position to finish twelfth. Fourth to tenth places were occupied by Russell, Piastri, Bottas, Tsunoda, Norris, Ricciardo, and Hamilton.
To begin with, Pierre Gasly of the Alpine F1 Team had a slide, nearly hitting the barriers on the side of the track.
Midway through the session, the top three drivers were Verstappen, Russell, and Perez.
In the latter half, teams switched to soft tires for their qualifying simulations. Albon from Williams F1 Team set the fastest lap at 1 minute 17.957 seconds.
Shortly after, Esteban Ocon of Alpine F1 made a mistake, running wide into the grass run-off area.
With ten minutes remaining in the session, Verstappen, still with Red Bull F1, improved his lap time to 1 minute 17.887 seconds, just 0.07 seconds quicker than his previous best.
In the closing stages of the session, Ferrari’s drivers encountered track issues. Sainz and Leclerc were hindered by Stroll and Magnussen, respectively, denying them the chance to improve their lap times.
The last ten positions in the practice session were occupied by Sargeant, Zhou Guanyu, Leclerc, Stroll, Sainz, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Gasly, Magnussen, and Ocon.
