Red Bull F1 driver Sergio Pérez was hit with three five-second time penalties during the Qatar F1 Grand Prix for multiple track-limits violations, which ultimately cost him his ninth-place finish, handing it to Zhou Guanyu. Pérez expressed his dissatisfaction with the sanctions after the race, stating that they were excessive and led to him scoring only one point.
Said Pérez, “Too many penalties, I ended up with just one point. It was a long afternoon for me, especially with the safety car at the beginning affecting us significantly.”
He then remarked that the stewards’ enforcement was overly strict, negatively impacting his race. He even sarcastically called track limits a joke, explaining, “You can’t see the edge of the track, and I lost so much time on my laps because of it. It was difficult for me to judge, but some drivers managed it, so I guess I didn’t do well enough in that aspect. But I also think track limits are a joke, coming up with solutions just before the race and then enforcing them so strictly with all these penalties – it’s really bad.”
