Red Bull F1 Team has confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda will continue to race for the outfit in the 2025 season.
With Red Bull announcing earlier this week that Sergio Perez has been re-signed for two more years, Tsunoda’s prospects of stepping up from the ‘B team’ to the ‘A team’ next year were slim, and it was widely expected that the Japanese driver would remain with the Faenza-based squad.
Before qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, RB made it official that Tsunoda will stay on, ensuring that the Honda-backed driver will enter his fifth season in Formula 1.
“I’m really happy to stay with RB and to have my future confirmed quite early in the year; it feels good,” said the Japanese driver. “I want to thank everyone at Red Bull and Honda who have played a big part in my career so far and will continue to do so.
“It’s great to know that my hard work is appreciated, and the team believes I can help them move even further forward. We’ve already made some good progress this season, which motivates me to keep pushing as hard as I can.”
Since joining F1 in 2021, Tsunoda has shown significant improvement, adding consistency to his evident speed. After eight races, he has scored 19 points, placing him tenth in the Drivers’ Championship, 14 points ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who has eight grand prix victories to his name. Thanks to his strong performances, RB is currently sixth in the Constructors’ standings.
“I’ve been following Yuki’s progress closely since he returned to Faenza, and year after year, his performances have been impressive,” said Red Bull Team Principal, Laurent Meekis.
“His development this year has been outstanding; he keeps surprising us race by race. His raw pace is undeniable, and now with added maturity, he’s become a very fast and consistent driver, as well as an excellent team player.”
Red Bull CEO, Christian Horner, added: “Yuki is a graduate of both the Red Bull and Honda young driver programs, and his progression to where he is today is testament to the fantastic work done by all involved. He is a valuable asset both on and off the track, with his engaging personality endearing him to fans around the world. We’re delighted he’ll be staying with us.”
The identity of Tsunoda’s teammate for the 2025 season remains unclear. Ricciardo has had an inconsistent start to this season, while Liam Lawson, who has deputized for Ricciardo in the past, is also eyeing a full-time seat.
