On June 22nd, the WTA 250 Birmingham tournament concluded its semifinal matches. Australian veteran Tomljanovic defeated seventh seed Potapova 7-6(5), 6-4, advancing to a title match after over five years. This marks Tomljanovic’s fifth WTA final appearance and her first on grass. She now aims for her maiden title against Putintseva.
Putintseva, in the meantime, swept Kostyuk 6-2, 6-2 to reach a tour-level final for the first time in nearly three years. It is the Kazakh star’s sixth WTA final and her first on grass.
In the doubles competition, Zhang Shuai and Miyu Kato dominated the third seeds Buzarnescu/Tomljanovic 6-3, 6-2 to secure their place in the final. This is Zhang’s first doubles final since the Abu Dhabi event last year.
