Wang Xinyu defeated the tournament’s 5th seed, Pegula, in three sets for her maiden Top 5 win and first appearance in the third round at Wimbledon; Shang Juncheng lost a thrilling five-setter to the 10th seed, Dimitrov; and Wang Yafan bowed out after losing to the 12th seed, Keys.

Wang Xinyu

In their first encounter, Wang Xinyu showcased a well-rounded game, securing a crucial break to take the first set 6-4. In the second set, she missed out on a chance to serve for the match and a match point, eventually losing the tiebreak 7-9. Regaining her composure in the decider, Wang broke twice early on to lead 5-1, and then held her nerve to close out the match, winning the final set 6-1 and sealing her historic victory. This marked Wang’s first victory over a player ranked within the Top 5 and advanced her to the third round, where she will face wildcard entry Dart for a spot in the last 16.

Shang Juncheng

Shang faced 10th seed Dimitrov in the second round. The match was intense, with Shang taking control in the opening two sets, winning 7-5, 7-6. Dimitrov rallied in the third set, breaking in the fifth game to level the match. As Shang’s energy waned and he struggled with physical issues, he called for a medical timeout. Taking advantage of Shang’s fatigue and wavering focus, Dimitrov pulled away to complete the comeback.

Djokovic

In the men’s singles, second seed Djokovic had a challenging encounter with local player Fennell but progressed in four sets. Fourth seed Zverev dismissed American Giron in straight sets, while ninth seed de Minaur defeated Spaniard Munar in three. Seventh seed Hurkacz, however, retired hurt from his match against French youngster Fichman after injuring his knee in a fourth-set tiebreak.

Svitolina

In the women’s singles, top seed Swiatek beat veteran Martic in straight sets; fourth seed Sabalenka defeated Siegemund in three; 10th seed Jabeur swept qualifier Montgomery; and wildcard recipient Wozniacki outlasted 30th seed Fernandez in three tight sets, all advancing to the third round. In an all-local clash, Dart fought back from a set down to defeat Bolelli and will now face Wang Xinyu for a place in the round of 16.
