Wang responded calmly, winning two games in a row to level the score at 2-2. Pegula then secured another break, taking a 4-2 lead, but Wang rallied, turning the tide to lead 6-5 and serving for the match. However, she double-faulted on a break point, sending the set into a tiebreak. A tense battle ensued, with Pegula saving a match point before prevailing 9-7 in the tiebreak.
In the decisive third set, Wang regrouped, playing more aggressively and decisively, breaking twice to lead 5-1. Serving for the match once again, she held her nerve to close out the set 6-1 and seal the victory.
Wang’s next opponent will be the world No. 100, local favorite Dart, who also had a grueling three-set win over compatriot Boulter.
