Timberwolves Extend Contract with Head Coach Finch for Four Years: Third Straight Playoff Appearance Under His Tenure

On June 25, it was announced that the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a four-year contract extension with head coach Chris Finch, which will keep him at the helm through the 2027-28 season.

In the 2023-24 campaign, Finch guided the Timberwolves to a 56-26 record, securing the third seed in the Western Conference and reaching the Western Conference Finals. This marks his third consecutive playoff appearance since taking over as head coach. Finch finished third in voting for the NBA’s Coach of the Year. He assumed the role of head coach for the Timberwolves midway through the 2020-21 season, following a decade as an assistant coach in the league. With a coaching record of 160-127, Finch has led Minnesota to the playoffs in each of his three full seasons.

Last month, team star Anthony Edwards praised Finch’s impact on the team’s progress, stating, “It starts with our head coach, Chris Finch. He’s here early every day. He’s finding ways to get me and (Karl-Anthony Towns) open. He’s finding ways to get Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert open. He’s finding ways to involve Naz (Reed). He’s a great coach, he doesn’t sugarcoat anything for anybody.”

“If KAT isn’t playing well, he’ll get on KAT. If I turn the ball over, he’ll get on me. If Rudy messes up, he’ll hold anyone accountable for the whole game. That’s why I think he’s one of the best coaches in the NBA. Because no matter who it is, no matter how big the name, he’s watching you from start to finish. He’s our leader. We all listen to him, look up to him, and he does a great job making sure we’re ready every night,” Edwards continued.
