As previously reported, Kawhi Leonard announced his withdrawal from the U.S. men’s national basketball team.
Today, NBA insider Shams discussed Kawhi Leonard’s decision to withdraw from the U.S. Olympic basketball team on a show.
Shams stated: “Leonard, the Clippers, and USA Basketball made this decision collectively over the past 24 hours; he will not participate in the Olympics. Over the past few months, he has been dealing with chronic knee pain and swelling. I was told that his inability to play at the maximum rate required for Olympic competition was the biggest deciding factor. I heard that if he were to continue playing through this Olympics, the Clippers would also be concerned about further damage to his knee. But obviously, he wanted to compete, and he did try hard during this training camp in Las Vegas; however, they reached an agreement today, deciding that Leonard should sit out.”
