On July 15, Pete Zayas, host of the Lakers channel “Laker Film Room,” revealed that he was asked by the Lakers to stop producing his podcast due to his criticism of the team and their dealings with Hurley in a previous episode.
“Three weeks ago, Lauren Lamkins, the Lakers’ public relations president, informed me that I’m no longer allowed to run my podcast, despite it being permitted when I was hired. She gave me an ultimatum – either stop the podcast or leave the job. It turned out the issue stemmed from my description of the Hurley affair as a ‘circus’. This did not sit well with the team’s management. Still, I want to operate independently and hope to express my views freely without any constraints.”
Pete Zayas joined the Lakers in 2020 as a video analyst, tasked with creating analysis videos and other content, becoming well-known for his “Laker Film Room” channel.
Hurley was the frontrunner for the Lakers’ new coaching position this summer, but unexpectedly declined their $70 million six-year contract offer, opting to stay at UConn and aim for a third consecutive NCAA title, missing out on the chance to become one of the highest-paid coaches in NBA history.
