July 23 news: It is reported that Spencer Dinwiddie will return to play for the Dallas Mavericks in the new season.
Earlier, ESPN mentioned in its report that Dinwiddie has signed a one-year contract with the Mavericks, reportedly a veteran’s minimum deal. This means the 31-year-old Dinwiddie will return to Dallas, marking his second stint with the team in his career.
At the 2022 trade deadline, Dinwiddie came to Dallas as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade. This year, he was sent to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the Kyrie Irving trade. In February, after being bought out by the Nets, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers.
During his previous tenure with the Mavericks, Dinwiddie averaged 17.1 points and 4.9 assists per game, playing a crucial role as the sixth man during the 2022 Western Conference Finals. In the pivotal Game 7 of the Western Conference, Dinwiddie went 11-for-15 from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range, scoring 30 points.
Dinwiddie’s return satisfies the Mavericks’ need for a scorer and ball-handler in their rotation, providing more options beyond the star duo of Luka Doncic and Irving.
