NBA has signed a new media rights deal worth billions of dollars per year—the salary cap may be set for explosive growth

On July 25, according to multiple U.S. media reports, the NBA officially signed an 11-year, $76 billion media rights agreement.

The NBA announced on Wednesday that it had reached new national TV broadcast agreements with The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, and Amazon. According to the Associated Press, the deal is worth $77 billion over 11 years. The previous nine-year, $24 billion agreement (for national games aired on ESPN/ABC and TNT) expires at the end of the 2024-25 season. The new agreement will begin in the 2025-26 season and continue through the 2035-36 season.

Additionally, it is reported that with the implementation of the new media agreement, explosive growth in the salary cap could soon follow, and it is highly likely that the salary cap will expand within the next decade.
