On August 2, in the final round of the men’s basketball group stage at the Paris Olympics, Australia lost to Greece by a score of 71-77, failing to secure an early spot in the next round.
Australia started off with a sluggish offensive rhythm, quickly falling behind. They were trailing by as much as 19 points in the first half. Fortunately, Greece’s offense slowed down in the second half, allowing Australia to narrow the gap. At one point, they managed to reduce the deficit to just 2 points, but unfortunately, their opponents hit back-to-back three-pointers, while Australia missed several opportunities for a comeback.
Australia still had a chance to turn the game around, but their free-throw shooting was lackluster, making only 10 out of 21 attempts (less than 50% success rate), which is quite disappointing. Landale made 3 out of 8 shots, missing several chances to score easily. Throughout the game, only three players scored double digits: Landale with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Mills with 13 points, and Daniels with 11 points.
With Australia’s loss, they now face uncertainty in advancing to the next round, with the possibility of elimination. Their fate will depend on the results of Spain and Canada’s match. If Spain wins, they will finish at the bottom of the group and be eliminated.
