Defensive Heroics! Wembanyama Struggles Offensively but Delivers Big Blocks

August 9th saw the Paris Olympics Men’s Basketball semi-final ignite, with the French men’s team avenging their past defeat against Germany, securing a 73-69 victory and advancing to the finals.

In this match, the French men’s team initially found themselves at a disadvantage. However, they quickly caught up by relying on their strong defense, tying the score at halftime at 33 points each. In the second half, the French team’s outside shooting improved, giving them control of the game. They managed to extend their lead and successfully held off Germany’s final counterattack.

Wembanyama, as the core player of the team, started once again. However, his shooting touch remained poor, much like in the previous game. This time he hit only 4 out of 17 shots, including 1 out of 8 from three-point range, scoring just 11 points. His offensive performance was quite poor, yet he still showcased significant defensive prowess by delivering 3 big blocks throughout the game, two of which were against Schroder. In contrast to Wembanyama’s commendable performance, Gobert seemed somewhat dejected, having been benched in the last game and only playing for 5 minutes this time, contributing 1 rebound and 1 assist.
