Today, according to The New York Times, the jersey that LeBron James wore 22 years ago when he was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated and dubbed “The Chosen One” will be auctioned off next week by Julien’s Auctions in Hong Kong.
Back in 2002, James was a junior at St. Mary High School and already recognized as the top high school player in the United States. An assistant photographer for Sports Illustrated, LeBrecht, captured an iconic image that made the cover of the magazine, with the headline “The Chosen One.”
It is understood that James wore this jersey during a game that evening and for much of his junior year. It is estimated that the final bid for this jersey could reach between $1-2 million, setting a record for a high school game-worn jersey.
