September 21 news, Brooklyn Nets player Ben Simmons has recovered from his back surgery and will participate in the training camp without any restrictions. Earlier, Simmons’ agent Bernie Lee confirmed to the public, “Simmons is fully recovered and can participate in the training camp. He is very excited to start training.”
In recent days, Simmons’ shooting coach Chris Brickley posted a video on social media showing Simmons practicing his shooting during the off-season, demonstrating the newly refined shooting technique of Simmons. He also responded to a skeptical fan, stating that Simmons is now in better shape than he was during his All-Star selection period. Over the years, Simmons has been plagued by back and leg injuries, with a significant decline in his offensive capabilities. Currently, both Simmons and his team, the Brooklyn Nets, seem to have no intention of continuing their partnership.
Simmons is in the final year of a five-year contract worth $177.2 million and will earn $40.3 million for the 2024-25 season.
Depending on how the season progresses, the Nets may seek to trade away Simmons’ contract, especially as teams needing long-term salary cap space might be interested in him. Although the Nets might need to take back a longer-term veteran contract, if handled properly, they could potentially acquire some draft picks in the trade as well.
During his four healthy seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, Simmons averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game, earning a spot in the NBA’s Third Team in the 2019-20 season and twice being named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Team. However, since joining the Nets, he has only played 57 games, averaging 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, a far cry from his previous form.
