Draymond Green on the Warriors' Offseason: Staying the Course is Right; Hasty Trades Could Set Back Team Development by Five Years

October 2 news, during the Golden State Warriors’ media day, Draymond Green expressed his impression of the team’s composure and lack of major changes amidst the tumultuous NBA offseason.

Green told reporters, “Seeing them stick to their guns, saying ‘No, we’re going to work hard, we’re going to sign Buddy Hield, we’re going to sign De’Anthony Melton, we’re going to sign Kyle Anderson,’ and then just working hard, bit by bit, I think it’s incredible. I think it shows the willingness of this management, and it’s a testament to Mike Dunleavy, who is a basketball genius, someone who has grown up in the NBA all his life. As I said, in most cases, you’d see someone panic, and then the moves they make would set them back five years.”

“In this league, one move can almost determine your team’s direction for the next ten years. Sometimes the best trade you can make is not making a trade at all, and I think we did well by going out and getting players that can help this team grow, which will give young players opportunities to develop while keeping the future of this team as bright as ever.”

This summer, although the Warriors had attempted to bring in All-Star forward Paul George and explored the possibility of trading Lauri Markkanen, the roster remained largely unchanged, with only Hield, Anderson, and Melton replacing Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, and Dario Saric. The team also hopes for continued growth from young players such as Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis. With Stephen Curry still performing at a high level, the Warriors are optimistic about the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
