Xinjiang vs. Nanjing Preview: Dual Foreign Players vs All-Chinese Squad, Lin Wei & Guo Haowen Once Again in the Spotlight

On September 21, the CBA preseason games enter their second day with Xinjiang Guanghui facing off against Nanjing Tongxi.

In the previous day’s match, Xinjiang Guanghui defeated Sichuan Men’s Basketball 88-66. Both of Xinjiang Guanghui’s major foreign players, Peterson and Lawson, played for over 30 minutes each, with Peterson contributing 20 points and Lawson scoring 16 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and making 6 assists. Yili Fulate scored 18 points, and Li Yanzhe added 10 points.

Nanjing Tongxi also secured a victory in their preseason debut, with Xi Rulijiang leading an all-Chinese squad to an 86-81 win against Qingdao Guoxin, who fielded two foreign players. Lin Wei and Guo Haowen both delivered outstanding performances, with Lin Wei hitting 8 out of 13 shots for 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Guo Haowen scored 22 points on 10 out of 19 shooting. Tian Yuheng contributed 11 points, Zhao Boqing had 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Zeng Fanri added 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Xinjiang Guanghui made significant changes during the off-season, replacing head coach Qiu Biao with Liu Wei. The team also saw considerable roster changes, with Tang Caiyu, Huang Rongqi, and Yu Dehao leaving, replaced by younger players like Yang Rui and Ge Haoran. In terms of foreign players, Xinjiang Guanghui has signed Peterson, who performed well last season with Jilin, and new foreign player Lawson.

Nanjing Tongxi also strengthened their lineup significantly this summer. The additions of Guo Haowen, Zhu Mingzhen, and Tian Yuheng have bolstered the team’s perimeter strength, especially with Guo Haowen’s explosive scoring ability on offense. In terms of foreign players, Nanjing Tongxi has not yet registered any foreign players.

Based on the overall strength of the two teams, Xinjiang Guanghui has a certain advantage. To integrate the team, Xinjiang Guanghui’s two foreign players are getting significant playing time, which adds pressure on Nanjing Tongxi, who are competing with an all-Chinese squad in the preseason. However, as the preseason is different from the regular league, Nanjing Tongxi, based on their performance against Qingdao Guoxin, will not surrender easily. Even with two foreign players, it won’t be easy for Xinjiang Guanghui to easily defeat Nanjing Tongxi.
