Nearly $1 Billion Invested by the Cavaliers in Recent Two Years; Mitchell: We Are Now a Championship-Caliber Team

On September 28, regarding the upcoming new season, Donovan Mitchell openly stated that the Cleveland Cavaliers are now a championship-caliber team.

Mitchell believes that the Cavaliers are stronger than last season, and he told reporters, “As long as we stay healthy, we are contenders for the championship.”

“I feel like we grew in many ways last season. We can play in a variety of different ways. During that period, D.G. (Darius Garland) and Evan (Mobley) were injured, but we found something that truly helped us reach the next level. So now the question is how to continue implementing this over the course of 82 regular-season games and the final 16 playoff victories. The constant improvement of the team is one of the reasons I decided to renew my contract, because I believe in our progress, and I also believe in our team’s desire and will to win.”

This offseason, the Cleveland Cavaliers have spent championship-level funds on their core four players. The Cavaliers signed Mitchell to a three-year contract worth $150.3 million, signed Evan Mobley to a five-year contract worth $224.2 million, and signed Jarrett Allen to a three-year contract worth $90.7 million. Added to the five-year, $197.2 million extension the Cavaliers signed with Darius Garland last year, this is a major bet on a core lineup that won 51 and 48 games in the past two seasons respectively. In total, the Cavaliers have invested nearly $700 million in the past two years.
