Report and Receive Rewards up to 20,000 RMB! Sports Journalist: CBA Announces Rewards for Reporting “Match Fixing, Gambling, and Corruption”

On September 16th, according to sports journalist Fu Zhenhao, the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) announced that it would provide material and spiritual rewards to whistleblowers who report incidents of “match fixing, gambling, and corruption” in basketball matches that are subsequently verified. The rewards range from 2,000 to 20,000 RMB.

The CBA recently issued four documents including the “Detailed Rules for Management of Discipline and Etiquette in Chinese Basketball Association Competitions,” which were compiled based on the General Administration of Sport’s previously issued “Management Measures for Discipline and Etiquette in Sports Events” and other documents, as well as tailored to the characteristics of the sport. Most other national single-sport associations, such as the Football Association, have also formulated their own implementation measures based on the General Administration’s documents; however, regarding the reporting of match fixing, gambling, and corruption, they all directly adopted Article 20 of the General Administration’s “Discipline and Etiquette in Sports Events”: “Sports event management units should establish a reporting system, publicize reporting methods, and handle reports related to discipline and etiquette.”

Currently, it seems only the CBA has refined the measures based on the General Administration’s documents, clearly defining specific reward policies for reporting “match fixing, gambling, and corruption.” Specifically: “For whistleblowers who provide effective clues that are verified, a material reward ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 RMB and an honorary reward will be given; for whistleblowers who repeatedly provide valuable information, especially those who play a key role in the investigation of ‘match fixing, gambling, and corruption,’ special rewards will be provided.” The CBA’s formulation of such detailed implementation measures demonstrates its determination to crack down on match fixing, gambling, and corruption.”
