Nanjing vs Sichuan Preview: Guo Haowen Shows Strong Form, Sichuan Rely on Hunter

Nanjing vs Sichuan Preview: Guo Haowen Shows Strong Form, Sichuan Rely on Hunter

On September 22, the CBA preseason enters its third day of competition. In the final game of the Yinchuan division, Nanjing Tongxi faces off against Sichuan Men’s Basketball.

Nanjing Tongxi previously lost to Xinjiang Guanghui 93-96. Four players scored in double digits for the team, with Guo Haowen leading the way after hitting 7 of 13 shots for a team-high 23 points. Zhu Mingzhen made six three-pointers and added 20 points, Lin Wei contributed 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Liu Dong scored 10 points.

Sichuan Men’s Basketball lost 92-99 to Qingdao Guoxin, suffering their second consecutive defeat. Powerful foreign player Marcus Hunt contributed 34 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists on 13 of 25 shooting. Samna made 5 of 12 shots for 13 points and 5 assists, while no domestic player scored in double figures. Li Jinxiao added 9 points, and Su Ruyu had 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

During the offseason, Nanjing Tongxi brought in new players such as Guo Haowen, Tian Yuheng, and Zhu Mingzhen, which bolstered the team’s depth and allowed Xi Ruliang to focus on his coaching duties. However, the performance of small foreign player Moody was unsatisfactory. Against Xinjiang Guanghui, Moody only scored 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals on 2 of 10 shooting, a far cry from his explosive triple-double performances last season with Qingdao Guoxin.

The biggest news for Sichuan Men’s Basketball this summer was the draft signing of streetball star Yang Zheng. Unfortunately, Yang Zheng failed the physical test and will need to pass it before he can officially play.

The return of Marcus Hunt gives Sichuan Men’s Basketball a backbone, while Samna will support Marcus Hunt.

Sichuan Men’s Basketball had the worst record among the 20 teams in the league last season, whereas Nanjing Tongxi had the best record among the eight teams that did not make the playoffs. After the offseason reinforcements, although Nanjing Tongxi still lacks a complete foreign player lineup, the strength of their domestic players has significantly increased. In this match-up, Nanjing Tongxi seems to have a slight edge, but with the powerful foreign player Marcus Hunt leading the charge, Sichuan Men’s Basketball is not without hope.
