Knicks' Starting Center Robinson Expected to be Out for Another Three Months, with a Latest Return in January Next Year

September 24 news, due to the need for further ankle recovery, New York Knicks’ starting center Mitchell Robinson is expected to return to play in December or January.

Robinson initially suffered a left ankle injury and underwent surgery last December, returning in March. However, he injured his ankle again during the Knicks’ first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers and had another ankle surgery in May. At that time, he was expected to recover within 6 to 8 weeks, but this timeline has apparently faced some setbacks.

According to reports, the team hopes he will fully recover before returning to the court. Last season, Robinson only played 31 games, averaging 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. In six NBA seasons, Robinson has averaged 8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks, shooting 70% from the field. However, over the past four years, he has also missed 125 regular-season games.

During Robinson’s absence, Precious Achiuwa (who renewed his contract with New York during the off-season), Jericho Sims, and rookie Ariel Hooperport will share the workload at this position. Industry insiders have stated that if Robinson’s recovery is further delayed, the team may attempt to trade for an experienced center. Potential options include Clint Capela, Deandre Ayton, Robert Williams III, and Isaiah Stewart.
