September 10 news, before the new season begins, the Los Angeles Lakers’ injury list has a new addition.
On Monday, the Lakers announced that Christian Wood underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will be re-evaluated by team doctors in approximately eight weeks.
The Lakers’ regular season starts on October 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which is six weeks from this Tuesday. This means that, barring any surprises, Wood’s return may not be until late November, which could accelerate the Lakers’ search for frontcourt reinforcements.
Wood missed the final two months of last season due to a left knee injury and had his first arthroscopic surgery on the same knee in March this year. In his first season with the Lakers, he averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 50 games but did not play after February 14.
Recently, Wood posted on social media: “Oh man, I just felt like I was getting back to my old self, regaining my peak form, and then… okay, this is a minor setback for a major comeback. My fans, don’t stop believing in me…”
This offseason, Wood chose to exercise his $3 million player option to stay with the Lakers.
Lastly, it should be noted that Wood is not the only injured player on the Lakers. Previously, there were reports suggesting that Jared Vanderbilt’s status seemed uncertain.
