Inauthentic? Blakeney Rejects Shanghai Sharks Citing Family Reasons, Now Linked with Monaco

On October 8, according to European media reports, AS Monaco is interested in Jalen Blakeney due to injuries sustained by Kostas Papanikolaou and Cedi Osman. Notably, Blakeney had previously publicly apologized to the Shanghai Sharks, citing family reasons for refusing to play for them this season.

During the off-season, the Shanghai Sharks secured the priority signing rights of Blakeney from Nanjing. However, Blakeney did not come to China to sign with the Sharks, and with the start of the CBA season approaching, the Sharks had to find a replacement foreign player urgently. Blakeney’s failure to honor his commitment caused significant dissatisfaction within the Shanghai Sharks organization, with head coach Liu Peng stating in an interview that it had a considerable impact on the team.

Recently, Blakeney personally posted an apology, explaining that he could not play in the CBA due to personal reasons. He mentioned that his grandmother’s health was very poor and required his presence, and his brother was facing some serious legal issues, necessitating his support.

Now, Blakeney is linked with AS Monaco, and this is not the first time. Previously, he was also linked with Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel. If Blakeney subsequently joins another team outside the CBA, it will undoubtedly lead to a collapse of his reputation within the league.
