On June 13, the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) officially announced via its social media that it has ended its cooperation with Đorđević and his team for this period. The CBA expressed gratitude for Đorđević’s contributions and efforts for the Chinese men’s national basketball team. As an experienced international head coach, his ideas and advice have brought much contemplation and enlightenment to Chinese basketball.
The selection process for the new head coach of the Chinese men’s national team has begun. The CBA will look forward to the 2027 FIBA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, adhering to regulations and procedures to actively promote the hiring process.
Review of Đorđević’s Coaching Record:
The Chinese team lost all three group stage matches, against Serbia by 42 points, South Sudan by 20 points, and Puerto Rico by 18 points. In the placement games, they defeated Angola by 7 points but then lost to the host Philippines by 21 points, finishing in 29th place, a new record low, and missing out on both the Paris Olympics and the Paris Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
In the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Chinese team, playing at home, suffered a 20-point comeback loss to the Philippines in the semi-finals, ending their chances at the final.
At the beginning of this year, the Chinese men’s team lost to Japan away, marking the first time in 88 years that they had lost to the Japanese team in an FIBA Asia or higher level competition.
