Both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown go cold! Combined scoring hits new low in Game 4

On June 15, in the NBA Finals’ Game 4, the Boston Celtics suffered a humiliating 84-122 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, with the series now tied at 1-3. However, they still hold the advantage and will return home for Game 5, where they have a chance to close out the series. The Celtics’ dynamic duo of Tatum and Brown collectively struggled, shooting a combined 7-of-22 for just 25 points, marking their worst performance in the finals so far. In the previous game, both players had impressive outings, scoring over 30 points each for a combined total of 61 points, helping the Celtics secure a crucial road win and putting them on the brink of the championship. No team in NBA history has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit, making the Celtics strong favorites for this year’s title. Facing elimination in Game 4, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving erupted for Dallas, while the Mavericks’ role players also stepped up. The Celtics, on the other hand, collectively struggled, trailing by 26 points at halftime. Dallas continued to dominate in the second half, extending the lead to nearly 50 points at one stage, ultimately routing the Celtics and narrowing the series gap to 1-3. Both Tatum (4-of-10 for 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Brown (3-of-12 for 10 points, 2 assists) were scoreless in the second half, setting new lows for their finals scoring. Their combined 22 attempts and 7 made shots for 25 points, coupled with their teammates’ lackluster performance, made it difficult to secure a victory. Despite the loss in Game 4, the Celtics remain in control of the series, and with Game 5 back in Boston, they are well-positioned to finish off the Mavericks. The race for the Finals MVP remains wide open.
