NBA insider Brian Windhorst discussed Warriors star Klay Thompson on the podcast “The Pat McAfee Show” today.
According to a report by renowned NBA journalist Shams Charania, Thompson turned down a two-year, $48 million extension offer from the Warriors before the start of this season.
Windhorst said:
“Before last season, they couldn’t come to an agreement, and then Klay had an underwhelming season by his standards, but still a decent one by NBA averages, averaging 18 points with a 39% three-point shooting rate. That kind of production could get you $20-25 million per year. Klay made over $40 million last season, so they’re hoping for a pay cut in terms of both annual salary and contract length. But seeing Draymond and Wiggins both get four-year deals, I don’t know how those conversations are going, but if I were Klay, I’d be asking for four years too.”
