On September 18, the WNBA regular season continued with a match between the Sun and the Lynx. Although the Sun managed to overtake the Lynx in the fourth quarter, they still lost 76-78 due to a clutch shot, thus missing out on the second place in the regular season. The Sun’s overall performance in this game was suppressed by the Lynx; they started behind 2-9, entered the fourth quarter down by 9 points, and at one point were trailing by as much as 12 points.
Entering the final 4 minutes of the fourth quarter, led by Thomas and Carrington, the Sun suddenly erupted, going on a 13-3 run to overtake the Lynx. Thereafter, the lead changed hands multiple times, but unfortunately, they could not stop Carlton from the Lynx from hitting a three-point clutch shot. In the entire game, four players from the Sun scored in double digits. Thomas made 9 out of 12 shots, contributing 18 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals. Carrington contributed 15 points, Mabrey had 13 points, and Jones added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
