On June 13, China’s men’s basketball team announced its latest training squad, consisting of 26 players, including young talents like Yang Hanxin and Zhao Weilun. This list has sparked some debate. In terms of club representation, Guangdong has four players selected – Zhou Qi, Hu Mingxuan, Xu Jie, and Du Runwang, making it the club contributing the most national team members. The current CBA champions, Liaoning, have only Zhang Zhelin on the list, with Zhao Jiwei and Fu Hao currently not included. The runners-up in the finals, Xinjiang, have no players in the squad; Abudushalamu and Qi Lin, both former national team regulars, are absent. It’s worth noting that the absence of Liaoning and Xinjiang players might be related to their recent participation in the finals. Interestingly, all of the past four seasons’ CBA regular season MVPs have been left out of this new national team training roster, including Abudushalamu, Wang Zelin, Wu Qian, and Hu Jinchu, with Hu Jinchu being injured. There is a clear trend towards youth in this 26-man squad, with players like Yang Hanxin, Zhao Weilun, Liu Liya, Lin Wei, and Wang Lanzhen, marking the beginning of a younger generation for the Chinese men’s basketball team.
