Recently, NBA legend and TNT commentator Charles Barkley discussed the prospects of the US Men’s Basketball Team on a show.
“Are international teams better now? 100%. But they’re still not as strong as the US. Even if you take away Jokic, Giannis (Antetokounmpo), and Luka (Doncic), who are all great players, Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) is also terrific, but we (the US Men’s Basketball Team) still have the next ten best players in every game.”
“No team has a better bench player than Tatum, no team’s bench is stronger than Durant’s. Although international teams have improved, there are no excuses if the US doesn’t win gold, it just wouldn’t be acceptable. We have the best team, the best players. The advantage is clear.”
Then Barkley made a bold statement,
“Listen, if they lose (don’t win gold), we can’t let them return home, they can’t come back. I’ve told them that if they don’t win, they can’t go home.”
The Olympic men’s basketball competition is currently at the knockout stage, with the US Men’s Basketball Team set to face Brazil in the quarterfinals.
