Beijing VS Sichuan Preview: Sichuan's Domestic Players Limited, Beijing in Hot Form for Consecutive Wins

At 19:35 on October 17, the CBA regular season continues with Beijing BAJC hosting the Sichuan Men’s Basketball Team.

During the off-season, Beijing BAJC signed five major reinforcements: Zhou Qi, Chen Yingjun, Jerman, Omot, and Solomon. Veteran coach Xu Limin became the new head coach, making the team a strong contender for the championship. In the first two games, despite Zhou Qi being unavailable and several other players unable to play, Beijing narrowly won 110-107 against Shanghai in their first match and then decisively defeated Ningbo 96-75 in the second, securing two consecutive wins.

In the first game against Shanghai, five Beijing players scored in double digits, with Jerman leading the team with 19 points, Chen Yingjun and Zhang Cairan each scoring 18 points, and Solomon and Omot also contributing double-digit scores. In the second game against Ningbo, Jerman again led the team with 20 points, while Omot played only 8 minutes due to wearing the wrong jersey. Fan Ziming and the returning Zeng Fanbo also had strong performances. Similar to previous seasons, Beijing lacks a superstar scorer, but their balanced offense makes it difficult for opponents to contain them. Zhou Qi is likely to miss this game as well.

Sichuan has also undergone significant changes this season, with Han Shuo transitioning from player to coach. The team’s three foreign players are Sumner, Maric, and Hunter. They have also brought in domestic players like Li Jinxiao and Li Weihao, and signed NBL interior player Yang Wenxue in the draft, enhancing their roster on paper.

In the first two games, Sichuan lost by 12 points to Ningbo and by 17 points to Shanxi, suffering two consecutive losses. Foreign player Sumner has scored 74 points in two games, including 46 points in the first game, showcasing his exceptional scoring ability. Big man Maric averages 25 points and 11.5 rebounds, and together they can score an average of 62 points per game, providing formidable firepower. However, the third foreign player, Hunter, has struggled, averaging only 4 points. No domestic player has scored in double digits, which is currently the team’s biggest issue. To win, Sichuan needs more domestic players to step up alongside their foreign players.
