Beikong vs. Guangxia Preview: Chen Guohao in Excellent Form & New Guangxia Signing Awaits Breakout—Can Beikong Secure Consecutive Wins?

On September 21, the CBA preseason games continue at Shanxi Jincheng, with Beikong facing Guangxia.

Beikong finished ninth in the regular season last year with a record of 29 wins and 23 losses, successfully entering the playoffs. In the first round of the playoffs, they were defeated by Shenzhen with a score of 1-2, failing to advance further. The number of players available for Beikong in the preseason is limited, as aside from the three foreign players who have not yet returned, Shen Zijie and Ding Boyu only recently passed their physical tests to gain eligibility. Liao San’ning is with the national team, and Ding Boyu is participating in the inaugural youth three-ball sports qualification tournament. This means that only 11 players will be available for Beikong’s first preseason game. Fortunately, Shen Zijie and others have passed their physical tests, which has somewhat improved Beikong’s preparation for the preseason.

Despite being short-handed, Beikong still managed to defeat Jilin 78-65 in their first game. Whether it was in terms of rebounding or offensive efficiency, Beikong had an absolute advantage over Jilin. However, their free throw percentage was only 57.7%. Fortunately, their opponent’s shooting percentage was even lower. In this game, only three players from Beikong scored in double digits. Among them, Chen Guohao came off the bench, shooting 7-of-12 to score a team-high 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Zhang Fan started and contributed 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Liu Xiaoyu added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists. In crucial moments, Beikong performed better than Jilin.

Guangxia, on the other hand, finished fifth in the regular season last year with a record of 33 wins and 19 losses, advancing to the playoffs. They defeated Shaanxi in the first round with a score of 2-1 but lost to Guangdong in the quarterfinals with a score of 1-3, thus failing to reach the semifinals. Yesterday, Guangxia officially announced that they have registered their new foreign player Nathan Knight. Carlton, currently playing for the NBL team Hong Kong Golden Bulls, has also been officially announced to join Guangxia. However, Carlton is still participating in the finals with the Hong Kong Golden Bulls and cannot play for Guangxia for the time being.

In their first preseason game, new signing Knight made his debut, but Guangxia still lost 70-74 to Shanxi. Although Guangxia had an advantage in rebounding, their shooting percentage was only 38.6%, putting them at a disadvantage due to a slow start. Three players scored in double digits for the team. Sun Minghui started and led the team with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Knight came off the bench to score a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, showing promising performance. Lin Bingsheng contributed 10 points, and Guangxia still has room for adjustment.

The two teams met three times last season, with Beikong holding a 2-1 advantage. In this game, after adapting in the first round, Guangxia should be able to make better adjustments. Despite having an incomplete roster, Beikong still put up a good performance in their first game, making this match equally exciting to watch.
