Belgium's Debut Shocks the World! Mesman Scores in Vain, Van Lu Scores and Makes a Three in the Final Quarter

On the evening of July 29, in the preliminary round of the women’s basketball group stage at the Paris Olympic Games, two European teams, Belgium Women’s Basketball and Germany Women’s Basketball, met for their first match. Ultimately, the German team, making its debut at the Olympic finals, shocked everyone by defeating Belgium with a score of 83-69.

After Alemania was absent due to injury, Emma Meeseman, a 31-year-old player, became the sole core of the Belgian women’s basketball team. She ranked second in the MVP list released by FIBA in the first period, behind American player Aja Wilson and above American star player Stewart. As a titan in European basketball, Meeseman is the flagbearer of Belgium’s delegation at this Paris Olympics.

During this game, the Belgian team performed poorly. They failed to score any three-point shots in the first three quarters. It wasn’t until the final quarter that they managed to break their scoring drought with a total of 12 attempts.

Meeseman had an impressive performance, scoring 25 points with 10 out of 15 shots, contributing 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. However, she missed her only three-point attempt and made 5 out of 9 free throws.

Two other players from Belgium scored double digits. Linskens scored 12 points with 6 rebounds after making 5 out of 10 shots. Van Lu, who scored 4 three-pointers in the final quarter, ended up with 18 points and 6 assists.
