CBA Club Officials Interpret Physical Tests: He Xining Fails Due to Line Stepping, Wang Yibo’s Injury Caused by Fatigue

CBA Club Officials Interpret Physical Tests: He Xining Fails Due to Line Stepping, Wang Yibo's Injury Caused by FatigueOn September 13, regarding the recent heated discussions on the CBA physical tests, Xinhua News Agency interviewed Fang Jun, General Manager of Zhejiang Chouzhou Men’s Basketball Team, and Lu Jun, Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Men’s Basketball Team. Both shared their views on the current physical testing and responded to issues encountered by their players during the tests. Regarding Wang Yibo’s injury during the physical test, Fang Jun revealed that Wang Yibo had participated in more than ten warm-up matches recently and was quite fatigued, with some lingering injuries beforehand. During this physical test, he sustained a slight strain and is estimated to need one month of rest. On the physical testing system, Fang Jun believes that all participants in the CBA league are professional players, and for them, physical fitness testing is necessary. He is particularly concerned about several points: first, whether the testing can be conducted openly, fairly, and justly, such as whether the requirements and standards at two testing sites are consistent. Second, whether the standards for retesting are the same as those for regular testing. If the retesting standards are lowered and become a mere formality, it would be unfair to the players who put in their best efforts during the regular tests. Third, Fang Jun suggests that the content and standards of the tests should be enriched and updated in the future, for example, providing different options for specialized speed endurance tests such as a 3000-meter run or diagonal court runs, allowing athletes to choose projects that suit their own characteristics and existing injuries. Fourth, Fang Jun believes that retesting should not be limited to a certain number of attempts but should be based on reality; as long as they pass, they can participate in the CBA league. National player He Xining of Shenzhen Men’s Basketball Team did not pass the first round of physical tests, which sparked much discussion and debate among public opinion and fans. In response, Lu Jun, Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Men’s Basketball Team, stated that He Xining failed the test because he did not step on the sideline as required during one of the return runs in the fourth set of the speed endurance test, resulting in his disqualification. Lu Jun believes that He Xining should have no problem passing the retest since he plays nearly 40 minutes per game in the CBA league, indicating no issue with his stamina.
