On September 28, according to previous reports, the Timberwolves traded Towns to the Knicks in exchange for Donte DiVincenzo, Julius Randle, and a first-round pick (from the Pistons). The Hornets joined as a third party in this trade, with the Knicks sending Jevon McQuire and draft assets to the Hornets.
Following this, ESPN revealed the projected starting lineup for the Knicks next season: Brunson, Hart, Bridges, Anunoby, Towns
The Knicks previously faced challenges due to Isaiah Hartenstein joining the Thunder, coupled with Mitchell Robinson not yet fully recovered from foot surgery in May, expected to return only in December or January next year, leaving the team short-handed in the frontcourt. The addition of Towns undoubtedly alleviates their immediate needs.
