On October 2, the second game of the WNBA semifinals took place, with the New York Liberty defeating the Las Vegas Aces 88-84 at home, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.
In this game, the Liberty initially found themselves on the back foot, but they soon found their rhythm and multiple scoring points, quickly overtaking the Aces and at one point leading by 10 points. However, the Aces kept the score close by consistently scoring. In the final quarter, both teams were locked in a seesaw battle, with the Aces managing to tie the score at one point. Yet, in the clutch moments, Ionescu delivered consecutive scores, and with Stewart sealing the victory with two free throws.
Stewart had an explosive performance in the previous game, and this time it was Ionescu’s turn, who put up 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, delivering crucial scores in the final quarter to stabilize the team’s position. Additionally, while Stewart struggled with her shooting touch this time around, hitting only 5 out of 15 attempts for 15 points, she contributed significantly with 7 rebounds and 8 assists; Jones also added 14 points and 8 rebounds, and Vandersloot scored 12 points.
With the first two games now concluded, the Liberty hold a 2-0 lead. In a best-of-five series, they are just one win away from advancing. The next two games will be held in Las Vegas.
