October 18 news: Earlier, the Los Angeles Lakers provided an update on the injury status of forward Jared Vanderbilt.
Currently, Vanderbilt’s recovery is progressing in the right direction, and his return may be sooner than expected. On Thursday afternoon, after the team’s shooting practice, Vanderbilt was seen participating in shooting drills. Before Thursday night’s game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick provided the latest update on Vanderbilt.
“His rehabilitation and return are going well, heading in a very positive direction,” Redick said. “We likely won’t have new updates for the next two weeks. Therefore, he will not be available for the start of the regular season. We are taking a long-term approach, which has been agreed upon by the coaching staff, medical team, and Jared himself. The season is long, and we want to ensure he is fully recovered. We will provide another update in about two weeks.”
In February, Vanderbilt missed time due to an ankle sprain and underwent surgery during the offseason. Given that he returned early last season and admitted to playing through pain for several weeks, a gradual return might be the best choice for everyone. If the end result is that he misses the first few weeks of the regular season but returns healthy, it will be worth it.
If there is another update in two weeks, this means he will miss at least the first four games of the season.
