How does the USA Basketball Men’s Team Plan to Overcome South Sudan? Curry: Maintain Vigilance, Can’t Afford to Be Overconfident

On Monday, during training, head coach Steve Kerr continuously reminded the players to be cautious in their upcoming Olympic group stage match against South Sudan.

Prior to July 20th, many media outlets predicted that the USA team could secure a winning margin of over 40 points, but this gap has recently been narrowed to less than 30 points.

Kerr spoke about South Sudan’s basketball team: “I’m really glad we’re going to play them, so we can feel their speed and three-point shooting abilities, and understand how good they are.”

Under the guidance of former NBA player and current assistant coach of the Houston Rockets, Royce Young, the South Sudan team has five players on the court who can shoot threes.

In the match against the USA team in London, South Sudan scored 14 three-pointers, and in their match against Puerto Rico, they scored another 10 three-pointers.

“The recent warm-up game was well arranged because it allowed us to identify areas for improvement and feel the strength of those teams trying to beat us,” Curry said. “Their offense is dynamic, they can spread the floor, make a lot of three-point shots, and they are very athletic. So you have to be mindful of how to defend them.”
