Kayama Yuki Opts Out of B League’s Top Salary in Tens of Millions of Yen for Likely G League Campaign & Salary in Tens of Thousands of Dollars

Today, prominent sports journalist @Wang Jian posted about Japanese national basketball team guard Kayama Yuki.

The report reads as follows:

“Kayama Yuki is likely to play in the G League for the upcoming season. He signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Grizzlies and did not participate in the Summer League; he will join the Grizzlies’ pre-season training camp after the Olympics. From the current situation, the likelihood of him securing a two-way contract is very low, and he is expected to play for the Hustle, the Grizzlies’ affiliate team. Playing in the developmental league carries an annual salary of only $40,000. With an Exhibit 10 contract and playing for more than 60 days with the affiliated developmental league team, he can earn up to an additional $77,500, theoretically taking his total earnings to around $120,000 (approximately 870,000 RMB). However, this is a significant drop from the top salary of 100 million yen (approximately 4.72 million RMB) in the B League. For Kayama, who is well-prepared to make his NBA push, money is not the primary consideration.”

According to previous reports, after signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Grizzlies, Kayama Yuki announced that he would join the Japanese national team.
