October 19, 2023 – According to reports, the Sacramento Kings have signed Shaquille O’Neal’s son, Shareef O’Neal. However, there is a small twist to this signing: it is reported that the Kings plan to waive Shareef tomorrow and have him join their G League affiliate, the Stockton Kings.
Shareef previously represented the Los Angeles Lakers in the Summer League in 2022, where he shot 44.4% from the field over four games.
Shortly after his Summer League performance with the Lakers, he signed with the G League Ignite and played for the team during the 2022-23 season. He was teammates with Scoot Henderson, who was selected third overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2023 NBA Draft.
In 20 regular-season games with the Ignite, Shareef averaged 5.6 points on 53.2% shooting, along with 3.1 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game.
To date, Shareef has not yet reached the NBA level of play like his father, but he may still prove himself through outstanding performances in the G League.
