June 18 update: It has been reported that the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat are both exploring trade options to move up in the 2024 NBA Draft to secure a higher selection.
Sports journalist Sam Amico recently revealed, “A league source told me last week he expects both the Lakers and Heat to be aggressive in their pursuit of a top-five pick.”
The Lakers currently hold the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, suggesting they might be open to improving their position to draft an impact player to complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The Lakers could view a top-five prospect as a means to bolster their competitiveness for next season and beyond. It remains unclear what kind of package it would take for them to ascend from the 17th spot into the top five, but it’s unlikely they would part with significant assets considering their roster still has gaps to fill.
