August 18th saw a strong matchup in the WNBA regular season as the Las Vegas Aces hosted the New York Liberty.
The game began with the Aces quickly finding their offensive rhythm, consistently hitting from outside. Gray and Plum both hit three-pointers, helping their team take control, leading to a 28-17 advantage at one point. Surprisingly, the Aces suddenly went cold, scoring no points in the final two minutes of the first quarter, while the Liberty went on a 7-0 run to narrow the gap.
In the second quarter, the Aces’ shooting touch remained poor, missing shot after shot from beyond the arc, only managing 2 points from Wilson’s jump shot. It wasn’t until there were over three minutes left that Hayes scored again for the Aces. Over the past nine minutes, the Aces scored just 2 points, while the Liberty mounted a 20-2 run, turning an 11-point deficit into a 7-point lead. At halftime, the Aces trailed the Liberty 36-42.
By halftime, Ionescu had already scored 17 points, while Stewart contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds; for the Aces, Wilson had 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Plum added 11 points.
