On September 30, according to media reports by @Xue_SijiaMRPG: It is understood that the Shanghai Sharks have signed Nigerian center John Egbunu as their fourth foreign player.
John Egbunu, standing at 2.11 meters tall and weighing 120 kilograms, plays as a center. Previously, he represented the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA, and subsequently played in European leagues such as Italy, Turkey, and France. Last season, Egbunu briefly joined the Ningbo Club, playing a total of 10 games with an average of 15.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
As a pure five position player, Egbunu has good physical conditions, possesses certain defensive and rim protection capabilities, and his offense mainly relies on easy baskets and second-chance opportunities near the basket. His addition will provide another reliable rotation option for the Shanghai Sharks’ frontcourt, especially for the undersized five position.
Currently, the club is working quickly to complete the necessary procedures for Egbunu’s entry and registration. If everything goes smoothly, he is expected to participate in the latter part of the first stage of the regular season.
With Egbunu’s addition, the Shanghai Sharks will enter the new CBA season with a four-foreign-player lineup. Although there was some delay due to the Blake issue, the club’s overall adjustments were relatively prompt, adding both an outside shooter and an inside anchor within a limited budget. The actual effectiveness remains to be seen through time and competition, hoping for a good synergy.
New sharks are about to set sail, striving for further progress 馃
