On the morning of July 20th, the men’s basketball friendly match saw Germany’s national team face off against Japan’s. Germany secured a 11-point lead by the first quarter and maintained this throughout the game, ultimately defeating Japan 104-83.

Germany, the champion of last year’s World Cup, boasts an impressive roster, while Japan has made significant strides in recent years, led by NBA player Hachimura. In this match, Japan’s Tadao Watanabe was absent. Germany clearly held the upper hand, leading by 11 points at the end of the first quarter with a score of 27-16, and by 25 points (56-31) at halftime. In the second half, the German team continued to widen their lead, leading by 29 points after three quarters. Despite Japan’s efforts to recover some ground in the fourth quarter, it was too late, and Germany emerged victorious with a final score of 104-83, securing their third consecutive win in the friendly matches.

For Germany, five players scored in double figures. Wágner Jr. had the highest total of 27 points and 8 rebounds from 16 shots out of 11, Schröder contributed 12 points and 4 assists, Wágner Sr. added 11 points and 5 rebounds, Madu Lo and Obster each also reached double digits in scoring. On the Japanese side, Hachimura topped his team with 19 points and 5 rebounds, Hokinson added 10 points and 8 rebounds, Fukuda Yūki scored 13 points and provided 5 assists, Riveru Yūki had 7 points, and Bijin Shinsuke contributed 11 points.
