Missed Opportunity! Li Yu’er’s First Appearance Post-Olympics, Scores Only a Free Throw

August 16th, the WNBA regular season reignited, with the Los Angeles Sparks losing 68-103 to the New York Liberty at home.

In this game, the Sparks started in a very poor state, trailing 3-17 against the Liberty at the beginning, completely at a disadvantage, falling behind by as many as 19 points in the first quarter. They remained passive throughout, facing a deficit of up to 40 points, and the game lost its suspense early on. Even when the Liberty substituted their main players early, the Sparks were unable to narrow the gap further, ultimately suffering a 35-point defeat.

Li Yu’er, our country’s player, was still the focus of attention in this game; it was also her first appearance after playing in the Olympics. Returning to the team with her outstanding performance from the Olympics, there were higher expectations for her. Li Yu’er came off the bench and immediately drew a foul, helping the team score the first point of the game. Surprisingly, however, this turned out to be Li Yu’er’s only point in the entire game, as she subsequently missed several close-range opportunities.

In the entire game, Li Yu’er played 20 minutes off the bench, shooting 0-for-6, scoring only 1 point via free throw, along with 4 rebounds and 1 steal.
