Mutombo's Career Honors: Tied for Most DPOY Awards, All-Star Selections

Today, various media reports announced that Mutombo passed away due to brain cancer at the age of 58.

Uncle Mu’s brilliant career has written a magnificent chapter. As one of the greatest defenders in history, his honors are as follows:

He won the Defensive Player of the Year award four times (tied with Gobert and Ben Wallace for the most in history), was selected once for the Second Team All-NBA, twice for the Third Team All-NBA, three times for the First Team All-Defensive, three times for the Second Team All-Defensive, made eight All-Star appearances, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.

In addition, Mutombo’s block count ranks second in history, only behind Olajuwon.

He also achieved ten triple-doubles, all through points + assists + blocks.
