Nicks vs. Pacers Preview: Rivals Reunited, Knicks Seek Revenge as Haliburton Aims for a Win Streak

On October 26, the NBA regular season will see the New York Knicks hosting the Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks made it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season but fell short of the Eastern Conference Finals due to injuries. During the offseason, the Knicks continued to strengthen their roster. They began by trading for Mikal Bridges, bolstering both their offensive and defensive capabilities. Following that, the Knicks made a bold move, using D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle as primary trade chips to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns. It is clear that the Knicks are aiming for a big push this season.

However, the first game of the season was a wake-up call for the Knicks. In their opening match against the defending champion Boston Celtics, the Knicks suffered a 23-point loss! Karl-Anthony Towns struggled in his debut, managing only 12 points and 7 rebounds. The team’s strategy, which revolved around Immanuel Quickley and relied on strong teamwork, failed to replicate its success from last season when facing the Celtics. Even their vaunted defense nearly allowed the Celtics to break the NBA record for three-pointers. The Knicks’ roster still needs time to gel.

The Pacers reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season but were swept 4-0 by the Celtics. During the offseason, the Pacers opted to retain their core players with significant contracts, including Pascal Siakam, Tyreke Nunney, and Jalen Smith. Although they did not make major additions, the young Pacers squad still has considerable room for growth.

In their season opener, the Pacers defeated the Detroit Pistons 115-109. Trailing for most of the game, the Pacers staged a fourth-quarter comeback, outscoring the Pistons 33-19 and securing the win. Five players scored in double digits, including Siakam and Haliburton. Additionally, Myles Turner, who missed part of last season due to injury, returned and contributed 19 points. The team demonstrated strong offensive capabilities.

This matchup between the Knicks and the Pacers is a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals, where the two teams battled for seven games. The Knicks ultimately lost despite holding a match point. Playing at home, the Knicks are clearly looking to exact revenge and secure their first win of the season. Karl-Anthony Towns’ performance and the team’s defense will be crucial. For the Pacers, maintaining their offensive momentum and avoiding the lapses seen in their opener against the Pistons will be key.
