People Confirm They Will Continue to Stay in Philadelphia; Construction of New Arena Receives Support from City Government

September 19 news, the Philadelphia 76ers’ efforts to build a new arena have gained new supporters. On Wednesday, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker announced that they have reached an agreement with the 76ers’ owner. In the future, the team will continue to stay in Philadelphia, and they are also willing to help the 76ers build a new arena with a total expenditure of $1.3 billion.

It is worth noting that this decision was made amid opposition from residents of the nearby Chinatown. A few weeks ago, the governor of New Jersey just proposed offering $400 million in tax incentives to help the 76ers build a new arena in Camden, across the river.

Cherelle Parker stated: “This is a historic agreement, and I fully believe it is the right choice for the people of Philadelphia. For the residents of Chinatown, please believe me, I hear your voices. We have the best Chinatown in the country, and I promise to continue working together to support it.”

The team’s owner stated that their planned “76 Place” will improve the depressed business near City Hall and make full use of the city’s public transportation network. They have already committed to not renewing the lease on their current arena located in the stadium area south of Philadelphia, which was built in 1996, and the 76ers’ lease expires in 2031.
